Two German maps that show the young United States confined east of the Mississippi River with Spain in control of the region to the west.

A. Amerika, by Johannes Walch, circa 1810 (7.1 x 8.6"). Only a few cities are named in the United States, including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Anapolis, Charleston, and Savannah. Santa Fe is the only city west of the Mississippi and is located too far north, with the vast region in the western US labeled "land unknown" with the exception of the west coast, which is "Neu Albion." Condition: A nice impression with moderate soiling and old manuscript ink notations in the top blank margin.

B. Charte von America, Anonymous, circa 1820 (6.7 x 8.1"). This map is filled with place names, including states, cities, rivers and lakes, with the exception of the Pacific Northwest, which is relatively blank. The locations of a number of Indian tribes are also noted. Condition: A sharp impression with a light damp stain that covers about 2/3 of the map.
