This promotional double-hemispheric map of the world was created by McCormick & Company in Baltimore, Maryland. The map emphasizes exploration and discovery, with the tracks of notable explorers prominently depicted including Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Drake, and Magellan. Of particular importance to McCormick, the map also names and locates spices found throughout the world, with a large percentage originating in Asia. The corners of the map further emphasize this perspective with illustrations showing the harvesting of various beans, teas, and spices. The map is surrounded by national flags, with the flags of 31 new nations identified in cusp at bottom (and 5 on the map). The map is further embellished by wind heads, sailing ships, a compass rose, and the signs of the zodiac. The verso contains "McCormick's Encyclopedia of Flavoring Extracts" and company information. Self-folds into pictorial wrappers (8.7 x 11.6").
