This interesting and uncommon sheet features three small maps chronicling Italian writer Pietro della Valle's travels in the Middle East and western India in the early 17th century. The largest of the maps traces his route from Antioch to Aleppo and southeast to Basra, with the Euphrates River prominently shown cutting through the map. At top left, the map shows the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, stretching from Basra to the Indus River. The third map spans the coast of western India from Ahmedabad south to Coulan (Kollam), with plenty of place names along the coast. An ornate compass rose appears in the main map.
