This uncommon chart of the Strait of Hormuz comes from a French translation of Johan Albrecht de Mandelslo's chronicle of travels in Persia and the East Indies. Soundings, anchorages, and small islands appear in the water. The port city Gammeron (Bandar Abbas) is prominently shown. The topography of the coasts is well illustrated. A title cartouche, a compass rose capped with a fleur-de-lis, and a distance scale complete the composition. On a sheet with French text measuring 8.3 x 14.2".

A nice impression on a sheet with a fleur-de-lis watermark, minor show-through of text on verso, and a small rust spot in the text, well away from map image.
