This complete volume contains 26 issues of the Niles Weekly Register from September 1827 to March 1828. Of particular interest is “Terrible Recontre” on page 182 - an early eye-witness account of the Sandbar Fight that was the source of the Jim Bowie legend. In the aftermath of a duel in which no one was shot, a fight broke out among the supporters of the duelists. Bowie was shot and stabbed but used his knife to overcome his attackers, killing the local sheriff of Rapides Parish. 440 pages, hardbound in quarter leather with tips over marbled boards.
