This humorous pictorial map depicts the Ford Ord Army base near Monterey, California. It was drawn by Private First Class Carlson and Neslen and depicts the lighter side of military life. The somewhat chaotic scene shows the leisure activities available at the fort including camping, fishing, tennis, baseball, movies, chapels, and more. Locates numerous P.X.s (post exchanges) throughout (essentially retail outlets for various merchandise). Along the Monterey Bay a pair of disappointed sailors stare at two mermaids next to a "no swimming" sign. Adorned by a decorative title cartouche and compass rose orienting north to the left.

While closed in 1994, Fort Ord was an important military base during World War II, Korean War, and the Cold War.
