This 141-page small book is a tourist guide for the city of New York. There are many different points of interest covered and over 30 small steel-engravings of buildings around the city to accompany the text. Also included are two folding maps. The first is a bird's-eye plan, Central Park, New York. A Picturesque Guide through the Whole Park Showing all the Improvements up to June 1865, (34 x 9") published by Louis Prang & Co. that gives stunning detail of the park and identifies the surrounding streets. The second is a strip-style Map of the Hudson River (2.9 x 24.2") published by James Miller that follows the river from Glens Falls to the Atlantic Ocean, giving detail of all the counties, towns, roads and rivers in between. The New York City street guide map has been removed from this example. There are a number of interesting advertisements at the front and back of the volume. Bound in burnt orange boards with gilt titling on spine.
