This charming pictorial map of Cambridge is by Kerry Lee and was published by his company Pictorial Maps Ltd. The bird's-eye view of the city centers on the distinctive English Gothic architecture of King's College Chapel. In the foreground, William Makepeace Thackeray, Lord Byron, Geoffrey Chaucer, and other figures survey the scene. Kings, literary legends, and other historical figures fill the map. Streets, buildings of note, and the various colleges are identified. The view is surrounded by an elaborate border incorporating coats of arms, vignettes, and numerous historical figures. Just as you will find illustrations of Georg Hoefnagel within his own compositions for Braun and Hogenberg, artist Kerry Lee appears signing his name beside his dog in the bottom right hand corner of the map. Other maps in this popular series include London, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Liverpool, and Leeds. Printed in Great Britain by Alabaster Passmore & Sons Ltd.
