The map is filled with place names in Japanese and features a number of insets, including bird's-eye plans of key cities, such as Niigata, Nagaoka, and Jōetsu. Printed on 9 sheets, joined and backed in thin rice paper, as issued, with self-folding brown paper covers.

Bright sheets with minor soiling, a stamp adjacent to the title cartouche, and a number of worm holes and tracks, with several larger ones at far left. Some of the joints are coming loose and the self-folding covers also have worm holes and soiling.
