A lovely Japanese bird's-eye view of Kyoto, the capital of Japan until Emperor Meiji moved it to Tokyo in 1868. Highly detailed, the view shows the street grid pattern of the city, individual buildings, roads, railroads, bridges, and rugged mountains in the background. While the map is entirely in Japanese other than the title, the verso contains text about the city in both English and Japanese. Folds into pictorial paper wrappers with photographic scenes on the inside of the wrapper (4.7 x 10.7"). According to the Rumsey reference, the creator is Hoei.
