This promotional brochure was published by the passenger department of the Union Pacific, Denver and Gulf Railway Company. It was issued to attract "investors and intelligent prospectors" to the Ward Mining District. This area went through an economic boom after gold was discovered in 1860, and the region enjoyed several decades of mining wealth. The folding map included at the front of the brochure shows the numerous mining claims in the vicinity - many of which reference gold in their name including gold crown, gold bug, gold king, and gold eagle to name a few. Within the 12 pages of text is an additional full page "Map of Colorado" (7.4 x 8.0") showing the lines of the Union Pacific, Denver & Gulf as well as the Denver, Leadville & Gunnison Railroad. The closing text provides the final sales hook stating that the "Ward Mining District is unquestionably one of the most promising...of any of the areas lying upon the great north and south sulphide belt." Folds into cream-colored paper wrappers (4.2 x 8.7"). Only 4 examples located on OCLC.
