This grisly and evocative engraving depicts cannibalism on one of the islands of the Lesser Antilles. The engraving is surrounded by an elaborate decorative border. It was published in Dr. William Hurd's abridged English translation of Jean Frederic Bernard's monumental history of religious ceremonies, manners and dress from around the world.
