A. Gezigt van de Stad Valparayso in Chili, by Isaac Tirion, from Hedendaagsche Historie, of Tegenwoordigestaat van Amerika, circa 1769, hand color (11.5 x 6.5"). This view illustrates the sea approach to Valparaiso. The view shows the hilltop fortress, a battery and the small village, with only a few houses and a church. Three sailing ships are anchored in the harbor. Tirion's Hedendaagsche Historie was initially conceived as the Dutch edition of Thomas Salmon's Modern History. The work began in 1729, but the text was later expanded and the Hedendaagsche Historie was therefore not completed until 1803. Reference: Shirley (BL Atlases) G.TIR-1a #14. Condition: A crisp impression, issued folding on a clean, bright sheet of watermarked paper with light toning along the edges of the sheet.

B. Plan de la Ville de Santiago Capitale du Royaume de Chili..., by Jacques Nicolas Bellin, from Histoire Generale des Voyages ... Tome Treizieme, published 1756, black & white (11.0 x 7.6"). This charming bird's-eye plan of Santiago is oriented to the south, with the Mapocho River featured prominently. Several canals are labeled, and numbered and lettered keys identify important locations. A small inset depicts a profile view of St. Lucia mountain. Condition: Issued folding on a bright sheet of watermarked paper with faint offsetting and minor soiling along the edges of the sheet. There is a binding trim in the left blank margin.
