This handsome miniature map is from the "miniature Speed" atlas, with maps engraved by Pieter van den Keere and based on John Speed's folio-sized maps published under the same title, A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World. The map shows numerous interesting geographic misconceptions. Russia is severely truncated to the east, and the Strait of Anian separates Asia from Part of America, with I. De Paxaros further to the east. Korea is depicted as an island. In Indonesia, the islands are shown with rudimentary shapes, and New Guinea is only partially delineated. Adorned with two strapwork cartouches. English text on verso.

References: King (2nd Ed.) pp. 116-117.

Condition: B+

Nice impression and color on watermarked paper with minor soiling, some show-through of text on verso, and narrow margins at top and bottom.

Estimate: $140 - $170
