This miniature French edition of Jonathan Carver's travels was issued as volume five of Bibliotheque Geographique et Instructive des Jeunes Gens or Geographical and Instructive Library of Young People by J.H. Campe. Included at the front of the volume is the small folding Amerique Septentrionale d'Apres les Dernieres Observations (10 x 7.75") by Herisson that shows the United States boundary extending to the Mississippi River. The western United States is divided between the British and Spanish along the 40th parallel. In the frontier regions, the map locates Indian tribes, the river systems, and very few place names. Two parts in one volume (139 pages and 212 pages) with an additional frontispiece engraving to part two entitled Danses des Femmes chez les Indiens de l'Amerique Septentrionale. 24mo, hardbound in quarter leather over tan boards with gilt title on spine.
