A pair of attractive early gas station maps filled with nostalgic illustrations and advertisements.
A. Arizona – Standard Stations Road Map, by the H.M. Gousha Co., dated 1938 (17.0 x 23.1"). The main map by H.M Gousha Co. is a detailed road map of the state with paved highways marked in red. On verso is a map of the United States with an index of national parks and monuments, along with a city map of Phoenix. Condition: Issued folding with some minor extraneous creasing. (A)
B. Arizona New Mexico Info-Map, by Rand McNally & Co., circa 1934 (27.5 x 17.2"). The main map of this promotional map from Gulf Oil shows Arizona and New Mexico with major “Interstate” roads shown in red. It is very detailed and includes topography. On the verso is a map of the whole Southwest with only roads noted and an inset map of the Grand Canyon National Park. The index notes the estimated population of Arizona in 1934 is 457,000; New Mexico's population is listed as 437,000. Condition: Issued folding with minor toning, some short splits along the folds, and a couple chips in the margins. (B+)
