During the Indian Removal when the U.S. Government forced Native Americas from their ancestral homelands in the eastern states to lands west of the Mississippi, the Army was charged with protecting both the Native Americans and the new settlers in the region. Dated February 21, 1838, this report explores the possible sites for a fort on the Arkansas River.
