This large, attractive terrestrial globe gore of the eastern Atlantic Ocean includes the Azores and Cape Verde Islands, as well as the Grand Banks off the coast of Newfoundland. The routes between Europe and the West Indies are shown, as well as the route of the Siamese embassy to France in 1686. Several short notes are included.
Vincenzo Coronelli was a Franciscan priest and renowned mathematician and cartographer. He was appointed official Cosmographer to the Venetian Republic in 1685 and founded the world's earliest geographic society, L'Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti.
