A. Russia cum Confinijs, by Mercator/Jansson, from Atlas Minor, circa 1648 (7.9 x 5.6"). This charming small map shows the Russian Empire in Eastern Europe. It covers the region from Scandinavia to the Caspian Sea. It has nicely detailed pictorial topography, including engraved forests, towns, and mountains. The map is embellished with two strapwork cartouches. German text on verso, published 1648-51. Reference: Van der Krogt (Vol. III) #1800:352.1. Condition: There are a few small spots in the map image and marginal toning. (B+)
B. The Empire of Moscovy, by Herman Moll, from Thesaurus Geographicus, circa 1695 (6.9 x 5.5"). This handsome map of the Russian Empire in Eastern Europe spans from the Gulf of Finland to Astrakhan. It includes a decorative title cartouche featuring a figure surrounded by animals. On a sheet of English text measuring 7.9 x 12.5". Reference: Shirley (BL Atlases) T.MOLL-1a #52. Condition: There are a couple minor spots in the map image and light foxing confined to the margins. (A)
