Superb little map of Sicily showing its political divisions and fine detail of topography, cities, towns and villages. The map extends to include the Aeolian Islands. The volcanoes, Aetna and Vulcano (Hiera) are graphically depicted and a small vignette of an erupting Aetna adorns the distance scale. Published by Francois Halma in Algemeene Weereldbeschryving, which contained numerous re-engraved maps copied from Nicolas Sanson's small maps by Anthony de Winter. However, this map was newly created for Halma's work as it does not appear in Sanson's small atlas of Europe. And although it does not include De Winter's imprint, it was likely engraved by him.
