This lot includes a pair of fascinating miniature maps from Mallet's Description de l'Univers. The first shows shows how depictions of the known world have evolved over time, based on the work of various geographers and cartographers. The Planisphere d'Arzael double hemisphere map at bottom depicts California as an island. The second map depicts climate zones of the ancient world, with a climate table on verso.

Condition:

The first map is in A condition and was printed on watermarked paper. The second map is in B+ condition with light toning.
