A pair of nice maps on a folio sheet, each with their own margins and cartouches. Both have charming pictorial depictions of cities and topography. The map at left covers the region known as Dietmarschen in Schleswig Holstein at the mouths of the Elbe and Eider rivers, including the cities of Brunsbuttel and Meldorf. The map is attributed to Petrus Boeckel in the block style cartouche. The map at right is oriented with east at top and focuses on Rugia and the adjacent coastline. It is based on a manuscript map sent to Ortelius in 1581 by Petrus von Edeling, who asked that he not be mentioned as the author of the map. Ortelius' Thietmarsiae... was printed with two other maps in different editions of the Theatrum. The combination of these two plates only appeared in editions of the Theatrum from 1584-98. French text on verso, published in 1598.
