This uncommon and exquisitely engraved map covers Saint Petersburg and the Neva River. It was published in the twenty-first and final volume of Merian's Theatrum Europaeum. The map extends from Neva Bay to Lake Ladoga. Saint Petersburg is depicted in miniature plan form with Peterhof and other palaces identified. Shlisselburg, which was captured by Peter the Great in 1702 during the Great Northern War, is located at the head of the Neva. A portrait of Peter the Great appears to the right of the title cartouche. There is a compass rose at bottom left.
