These two books provide a wealth of information on U.S. boundaries and the origin of county names.
A) Boundaries of the United States and the Several States, by Franklin K. Van Zandt, published 1976, printed color (9.4 x 11.6"). Published by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1976, this is a revised Geological Survey record on the various boundary disputes and commissions in the history of the United States. 191 pages, 54 illustrations, maps, and photos, many in color. B) The American Counties, by Joseph Nathan Kane, published 1962, black & white (5.6 x 8.7"). This reference serves as a useful record of the origin of the names of 3,072 counties with dates of organization and other interesting information. 540 pages. Hardbound.
