This lot contains two versions of a noteworthy pictorial map of the United States:

A. A Pictorial Map of the United States of America Showing Principal Regional Resources, Products, and Natural Features, by General Drafting Co., Inc., circa 1950 (31.3 x 23.2"). This is the first edition of this information-packed map created by the General Drafting Company. The main map features over 700 drawings in full color including points of interest, natural resources, and agricultural products. At bottom are inset maps showing railroad lines, air routes, and highways. The verso contains a road map of the United States with a mileage chart and points of interest surrounding it. This map was reissued several times with various sponsors including the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and Department of State. Reference: Rumsey #8140.

B. A Pictorial Map of the United States of America Showing Principal Resources, Products, and Recreational Features, by General Drafting Co., Inc., dated 1956 (19.8 x 12.3"). This is a reduced version of the map above with updated illustrations. It is in an unusual format described as a “self-adhesive presto map,” intended for any number of recommended uses, including “decorating wastebaskets, lampshades, screens.” Directions on verso were to be peeled off. Stamped “Copyright File” in the bottom right corner and on verso, indicating it is possibly a prototype that may or may not have been produced commercially. No past sales records and OCLC lists only one location.
