This detailed highway map coves the area from the Salton Sea north to Palm Springs, Twentynine Palms, and Amboy. It was "compiled for information of guests who are interested in southern California's wonderful desert section." Beyond the road network, the map shows a variety of information including relief, springs, mines, lakes, dry lakes, and more. Includes the large inset "Enlargement of Palm Springs and Palm Canyon" (17 x 21"). Folds into pictorial wrappers (3.8 x 9.0") with "Compliments of the Desert Inn." According to World War II journalist Ernie Pyle, the founder of the Desert Inn (Nellie Coffman) “started what was to become the whole vast vogue of desert vacationing, all the great resorts – Tucson and Phoenix and Death Valley – the fancy hotels and the southwest dude ranches…it all started with Mother Coffman. B. Desert Riders' Trail Map of Palm Springs and Environs, by Desert Riders Palm Springs California, dated 1941, printed color (13.4 x 22.3"). This map of the Palm Springs region extends southwest to include portions of San Jacinto State Park and the San Bernardino National Forest with numerous horseback riding trails highlighted in orange. Text on verso describes the trails in detail, and proceeds from the sales of the map (10 cents) were intended to add trails. Self-folding into pictorial wrappers (4.1 x 7.6"). Locates numerous points of interest and local businesses with playful illustrations interspersed throughout. Verso contains a comprehensive list of attractions that are keyed to the map. Self-folding with a humorous representation of Sonny Bono on the front wrapper (3.7 x 8.5"). Condition: A clean, colorful example with light wear along the fold lines. Issued folding. (A)
