A. W.R. Given's Map of the Salt Creek Oil Field Natrona Co, Wyoming, by W.R. Given, dated 1921 (6.9 x 10.0"). This small map was featured on the back of a "limited offering of Big Indian Stock at 25 Cents Cash." It presents detailed ownership within the oil field, including the property of the Big Indian Oil & Gas Co. which enjoyed some success. By 1970 this oil field had produced more oil than any other in Rocky Mountain region. Included with the map is an order form for Big Indian stock, another broker’s list of stock prices showing Big Indian stock, and the original envelope. Condition: Light toning and soiling. (B)
B. Map of the Big Muddy Oil Field Wyoming Showing Holdings of the Big Bear Oil Co., by the Clason Map Co., circa 1919 (10.4 x 8.4"). This map was featured in a 4-page promotional piece for the Big Bear Oil Company. It locates the company's three holdings within the oil field along with other ownership interests including Sinclair and Merritt Oil Company. While the Big Muddy Oil Field produced over 37 million barrels of oil by 1956, Big Bear apparently didn’t contribute. The Federal Trade Commission charged them for “…numerous false and misleading statements…published to deceive the purchasing public with respect to the location, productivity, and value of the respondent’s oil interests.” The charges ultimately were “dismissed for failure of proof.” Condition: Light toning with a few small fold separations closed on verso with archival tape.
