This map shows the Roman Empire in present-day Belgium and is filled with ancient place names. Political boundaries, cities, imperial roads, and the extensive river system are well defined, based on the Peutinger Table. Adorned with a decorative cartouche featuring a pair of cherubs. Dated 1659 but published in 1667.
References: Pastoureau, SANSON VI [63].
Condition: A
A crisp impression with contemporary outline color in the map and later color in the cartouche on a bright sheet with a large coat of arms watermark. There is a bit of offsetting at right and some minor extraneous creasing along the centerfold.
