This attractive map focuses on the region between the Black and Caspian Seas. There is great detail of the mountains, cities and villages. Colchis is the legendary kingdom in the Greek myth wherein Jason and the Argonauts stole the Golden Fleece from King Aeetes. The decorative title cartouche is draped in a sheepskin and flanked by two hunting dogs.

References: Pastoureau, SANSON V B [156].

Condition: A

A sharp impression with contemporary outline color and later color in the cartouche, on a bright sheet with a large coat of arms watermark. There are a few extraneous creases adjacent to the centerfold at bottom, a printer's crease at top center, and a faint stain in the bottom blank margin.

Estimate: $200 - $230
