This atlas map was drawn by Charles Henry Hitchcock, whose first geological map of the United States was completed in 1872. It presents remarkable geological detail with a color-coded legend identifying six different geological types including Eozoic, Paleozoic, Coal Measures, Mesozoic, Conozoic, and Volcanic. Geographic features include major mountains, cities, rivers, and a few major cities.

A colorful example with light toning along the sheet edges and a couple of short edge tears confined to the blank margins that have been closed on verso with archival tape.
