This interesting little German map shows the political alignment following the Mexican-America War with a narrow New Mexico inserted between an oversized Texas extending above Santa Fe and the former Upper California. The Great Basin region is largely void of detail and the settlement of N. Helvetica is located adjacent to the Sacramento River. A table at top right lists the Mexican states and an inset at lower left depicts the vicinity of Mexico City. A profile at bottom extends from Acapulco to Vera Cruz and is based upon the findings of Alexander von Humboldt.
