This colorful map of Rio de Janeiro with French text was lithographed by Ypiranza in Sao Paolo. It shows the street grid pattern of the city, the rugged terrain in the vicinity, and over 100 points of interest including Christ the Redeemer perched high above the city. The verso contains a highway map of the Federal District and smaller photo illustrations. Self-folding into pictorial paper wrappers (4.7 x 9.4").
Organized tourism began to emerge in Rio de Janeiro in the 1920s, and this is an early example of a promotional item obviously intended for French visitors.
