A. Carte Particuliere du Perou, Plan de la Ville de Lima, Description de Quelques Plantes, Animaux, & Machines du Pays. Avec l'Habillement des Hommes & des Femmes Espagnoles qui y Demeurent, by Henry Abraham Chatelain, from Atlas Historique, circa 1720 (14.7 x 19.2"). This interesting folio sheet contains two maps and two engravings surrounded by panels of French text. The top map covers the northwest coast of South America from Panama to northernmost Chili, with detail of towns, rivers, and mountain ranges. The map is flanked by two engravings depicting the people, tools, animals and plants of the region. At bottom is a bird's-eye plan of Lima showing its fortifications. Condition: A dark impression, issued folding with wide margins. There is a tiny worm track along fold in bird's-eye view at bottom. Otherwise clean and bright. (B+)
B. Mission des Moxes Etablie par les PP. de la Compe. de Jesus dans le Perou, by Jean-Baptiste Du Halde, from Lettres Édifiantes et Curieuses, Écrites des missions Étrangères par Quelques Missionnaires de la Compagnie de Jesus XII. Recueil, circa 1717 (5.1 x 7.2"). Finely engraved map of the region east of Cuzco. The map shows the topographical details and location of the numerous Jesuit missions, in addition to locating Cuzco. Strapwork title cartouche. Condition: Issued folding with light offsetting, minor toning, and four small worm holes that have been professionally repaired. (B+)
C. Platte Grond van Lima de Hoofstad van Peru, by Isaac Tirion, from Hedendaagsche Historie, of Tegenwoordigestaat van Amerika, circa 1769 (10.3 x 7.3"). This striking plan shows the fortified city of Lima in nice detail. A key below the title identifies the major buildings, including a palace, cathedral, town hall, and hospital. The city is protected on one side by a river while extensive ramparts and suburbs surround the other sides. Tirion's Hedendaagsche Historie was initially conceived as the Dutch edition of Thomas Salmon's Modern History. The work began in 1729, but the text was later expanded and the Hedendaagsche Historie was therefore not completed until 1803. References: Shirley (BL Atlases) G.TIR-1a #12. Condition: Issued folding on a bright sheet. (A)
