This superb, two-sheet map of Oxfordshire is centered on the city of Oxford and is divided into hundreds. Roads, towns, forested areas, and topography are graphically depicted. Surrounding the map are a prospect view of Oxford from the east, profile views of four important buildings (Oxford theater, Oxford University, Blenheim Palace and Blenheim Bridge), and a depiction of the Roman mosaic at Stunsfield. The title cartouche focuses on the themes of agriculture and forest animals. The map is dedicated to George Smalridge, the Bishop of Bristol and Lord High Almoner to his Majesty. Engraved by John Oliver, who was also known as a surveyor and glass painter. Printed on two sheets, joined.
