Victor Levasseur's "Atlas National Illustre" and "Atlas Universel Illustre" are among the last decorative atlases published. The maps are all lavishly illustrated with scenes of the countryside, products and activities indigenous to the region.
These matching decorative sheets depict the departments of Haute-Marne in the Northeast and Cher in central France. The detailed maps are surrounded by steel-engraved images illustrating the important sites, peoples and commerce in each region.
