This is the western sheet of a two-sheet historical map covering the Balkans. It spans from Pristina, Kosovo east to Sofia, Bulgaria, and from Moldavia south to the Golfo di Salonicchi (Thermaic Gulf). Numerous places are named, often with several alternate names and spellings, reflecting the various cultures in the region. The Danube prominently cuts through the upper half of the map, and there is nice topographical detail throughout. Several battle sites are indicated by sword symbol and date, most of them related to clashes with the Ottoman Empire. The Battle of Kosovo (1448) is commemorated with a note that spuriously claims that the Crusader army under Hungarian leader John Hunyadi killed 34,000 Turks and that 8,000 Christians died. The coats of arms for Moldavia, Servia, Bulgaria, and Macedonia pepper the landscape. There is an elegant distance scale cartouche at bottom left.

A nice impression on a sheet with a watermark of three crescent moons. There is light toning and offsetting along the centerfold, some light scattered foxing along the sheet edges, and a centerfold separation at right that has been closed with old paper on verso.
