Uncommon, small map of Rome and the surrounding countryside, oriented with north to the left. Portions of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio are shown, with the Tiber winding through to the Mediterranean. This map is a close copy of Giovanni Antonio Magini's map from 1620, newly engraved by Maltio Cadorin in Padua. Lasor a Varea, whose real name was Raffaello Savonarola, published his two-volume scriptural and historical dictionary, Universus Terrarum Orbis, in 1713 with nearly 500 maps that were taken from old plates by Valegio, Porcacchi, Rosaccio-Franco, and Magini, many of which were more than a century old, and often reworked or re-engraved. Latin text on verso.
