A. The Official Atlas of the Civil War, by Henry Steele Commager, published 1958 (14.4 x 17.6"). This facsimile edition of Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies was the first new printing of the atlas since it was originally published by the Government Printing Office between 1891 and 1895. It faithfully reproduces the 175 plates of the original in full color. Historian Henry Steele Commager contributed an introduction to this edition. The book is a wonderful tool for historians, map collectors, and Civil War buffs. Published by Thomas Yoseloff. Hardbound in blue cloth with silver insignia on cover and silver titles on spine, and an illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Contents are good with some light toning and minor soiling. There is dampstaining on the cover and dust jacket, and several tears on the dust jacket have been closed with tape. (B)

B. Civil War Maps - An Annotated List of Maps and Atlases in the Library of Congress - Second Edition, by Richard W. Stephenson, published 1989 (8.8 x 11.3"). This is the expanded second edition of this reference covering the maps and atlases of the American Civil War. The book includes 2240 maps and charts, 76 atlases and sketch books, 162 maps and 28 collections of paper from the Library of Congress's Manuscript Division, and a few additional atlases that accompany volumes in the Library's general book collections. It focuses not only on maps and atlases made during the war, but also those made in the aftermath. Entries include descriptive notes, and there are plenty of illustrations, some in color. 410 pages, hardbound with gilt titles on front cover and spine and a gilt Library of Congress stamp on the back cover.
