This is the first edition of this interesting and uncommon ethnographic map of North America with 34 different tribal groups listed and color-coded on the map. An inset at lower left identifies the distribution of various languages on the continent. Berghaus’ Physical Atlas was the first truly comprehensive thematic atlas and a monumental work in the history of thematic cartography. The map is based on the work of Albert Gallatin.
