This handsome atlas map of the continent features some interesting territorial configurations in the western United States. It features the Confederate Territory of Arizona, established south of New Mexico in 1861. Kansas is still depicted as a territory, with Utah Territory to its west and a massive Nebraska Territory that extends all the way to the border with Canada to its north. Alaska is Russian America. According to note below the title, the map includes "the most recent discoveries in the Arctic Seas and West Coast, from Government charts and reports, United States survey &c." Published by A. Fullarton & Co., drawn and engraved by G.H. Swanston, and "printed in colors" by Fr. Schenck.
