This attractive world map on Mercator's projection is centered on the Pacific Ocean and excludes both polar regions. In North America, the United States is confined to east of the Mississippi River with a large Louisiana to its west. The outline of Alaska is fairly well-formed to the Icy Cape, and the discoveries of MacKenzie and Hearne are noted in the Arctic. Lake Parime is still depicted in northern South America despite the late publication date, and Australia is divided between New South Wales and New Holland. Engraved by Sidney Hall and published by A. Constable in Edinburgh.
