This lot includes two pictorial maps by Frank Eaton for The Stage including:

A. The Stage's Map of Winter Broadway (12.6 x 18.9"). This delightful bird's-eye plan of Broadway is intended for actors and theater-goers alike. It shows the area between Fifth Avenue and Ninth Avenue, from Columbus Circle to 39th Street, identifying all of the large and small theaters. Iconic venues such as Radio City Music Hall, the Broadway Theater, the Palace Theater, and the Winter Garden Theater are illustrated in three dimensional views. The historic 30 Rockefeller Plaza is also shown, labeled as the "world's largest office building" and with a note that "if you think your cartographer is going to draw in all the windows in this 70-story building you're crazy." The plan also captures all of the characters of New York, including commuters, policemen, sanitation workers, shoppers, shoe shiners, and even beggars and "bums."

B. The Stage's Own Motor Map of Summer Broadway. Revised Edition (19.3 x 13.1"). This playful map shows all the summer hot spots for theater mostly in the tri-state area but extending north to include Newport, Nantucket, Cape Cod, and Bar Harbor to name a few. The map is filled with humorous illustrations and captions including a "Barn Waiting to Become Summer Theater", "Broadway Producer Leaving Brookfield with Ideas", and "Actors Paddling Their Own Course." Includes inset maps of eastern New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania along with a "legend" defining one star being equal to one summer theater. Overall, the map demonstrates that even in the depths of the Great Depression summer stock theater was vibrant.
