This rare map of the state was published by the Southern Pacific Company. It depicts the company's existing railroads in bold lines like veins coursing through the state. The company's projected railroads are delineated with dotted lines, while other companies' tracks are denoted with narrower lines. There is nice topographical detail throughout and plenty of place names. Elevations of various mountains are listed in a table at top left. The cartography is drawn from a map prepared by Brig. Gen. H.C. Wright, Chief of Engineers. Lithography by the San Francisco-based H.S. Crocker & Co. We found no auction records and only one dealer listing (1888 edition in 1993) in the last 40 years and only two institutional examples located on OCLC (UC Berkeley and UC Davis).
