This attractive bird's-eye view of the city was drawn by C. Merriman Peter for the Panama-Pacific Exposition (1915 World's Fair). While the fair's name gave recognition to the recently completed Panama Canal, it also gave the city of San Francisco an opportunity to showcase itself following the 1906 earthquake. Oriented with west at top, the view extends from downtown to Sunset and from South San Francisco north to the Presidio. The exposition grounds are depicted between Fort Mason and the Presidio, and a legend further locates railroads and cable cars. Lithographed by Britton & Rey. The view folds into a 48-page tourist guide issued by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce that features numerous photographic illustrations within the text. Gilt-stamped blue wrappers.
