This tourist street map of San Francisco was issued by the InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel and published by Hollmann Publishing Company. Located at the top of the Nob Hill neighborhood, this luxury hotel was named after one of the founders of the Central Pacific Railroad, who built his mansion on the spot, which was completed after his death in 1878. The mansion was destroyed during the 3-day fire that resulted after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The land was purchased by George D. Smith, a hotel investor, and the 19-story hotel was completed in 1926. This three-dimensional plan of San Francisco names all streets and gives great detail of the buildings on each city block. The map extends from Mission Street in the south to Fillmore Street in the northwest. A compass rose at bottom right orients north to the top right corner of the sheet.
