This elephant folio atlas contains 36 geologic maps and was issued in conjunction with the 746-page monograph "The Marquette Iron-Bearing District of Michigan." The lengthy report (not included) was the first systematic attempt to examine the geological structure of the iron-rich Upper Peninsula of Michigan, covering a 35 mile stretch from Marquette to Lake Michigamme. The atlas consists of a large index map and 35 detailed sheets, each displaying the geology in vivid color including iron, granite, slate, and quartzite to name a few. Each sheet is accompanied by a geological section and legend at bottom. Hardbound in brown cloth with gilt title on the front cover.
