This map follows part of the Berbice River in Guyana, identifying the plantations involved in the Slave Uprising of 1763-64. The Dutch colony of Berbice experienced worsening hunger and disease as a result of the Seven Years' War and a reduction in supplies being shipped to the colony. The slave population, which outnumbered the colonists 10 to 1, began to rebel against the colonists in February 1763, causing the Dutch settlers to flee. After sending in reinforcements, the Dutch regained control of Berbice and the slave population, executing numerous "rebel" slaves. The plantations, roads, fort, and river system are shown, with several of the plantations named. Engraved by A. v. Krevelt.
