This striking engraving features two views of Johanna Nieuhoff's adventures on the Cape Verde Islands in 1653. It was published by Awnsham and John Churchill in an English edition of Nieuhoff's Gedenkwaardige Brasiliaense Zee en Landt-Reize. In the top view, showing Santo Antao, men chase wild goats against a backdrop of dwellings. The second view depicts Nieuhoff's men on the "rocky and barren" island of Sao Vincente with captured goats and tortoises. They appear to be preparing a vat of turtle soup at right.

A nice impression on paper with a foolscap watermark. There is a printer's crease and minor toning along the centerfold.
