This fine and uncommon plan illustrates London before and after the Great Fire. The extent of the damage and the proposed plans for rebuilding are shown below in an enlarged view on a scroll to separate it from the main plan. Due to the need to rebuild as quickly and economically as possible, it wasn't possible to create the city using a new grid system; rather, new houses were built mostly on the former street plan, though some roads were widened and some new streets were constructed. Two coats of arms rest in the upper corners.
