A. Australia, by Edward Weller, from Weekly Dispatch Atlas, circa 1857 (16.9 x 12.2"). This handsome map of Australia appeared in the Weekly Dispatch Atlas, which was published in monthly segments for subscribers of the Weekly Dispatch newspaper. Much of the interior is blank, but Lake Torrens is identified and the boundaries of Victoria are delineated. Queensland is not yet named. Lithography by Day & Son. Condition: Minor offsetting and marginal toning.
B. Australasia, by Sidney Hall, circa 1860 (14.8 x 10.2"). This map of Australasia extends from Indonesia to the Friendly or Tonga Islands. There are plenty of place names and some topographical detail along the coastline of New Holland or Australia. New Guinea, New Zealand, and several nearby island chains are also depicted in nice detail. Condition: There are a few short edge tears in the right blank margin, well away from map image.
